Unexpected

Chapter 1

 ~~~~Reader’s P.O.V.~~~~
             Everything just keeps getting worse. Your car broke down this morning, leaving you to walk to work. It was windy outside, and your outfit and hair became disheveled. You were late, and your boss was waiting for you when you arrived. He criticized you on time management and your appearance.
            After a while, he got very sick of your downcast attitude. You greeted customers without a smile and directed them like a drone. It was almost as if you didn’t care about your job. So, he fired you.
~~~~Neko!Russia’s P.O.V.~~~~

             I awoke to a man holding me. He smelled of burnt food. All of a sudden, a woman burst in through the door, her platinum blond hair and her blue dress cascading all around her. Madness glinted through her eyes.

            She started screaming and yelling, and I instinctively got out of the smelly man’s grasp. Sprinting through the home where I woke up, I found an open window over a stove that omitted black smoke. I made my exit.

            Outside was a small open space surrounded by a forest. The house I escaped from was located in the center. New smells confronted my nose, and I ran to follow.

---Time Skip Brought to You by Turkey’s and Greece’s Kitty Litter---

             After a few days, I started to grow lonely. There were not many animals, but every small animal I found I ate. I decided to climb a tree, trying to get a good view of my surroundings. It seemed that the higher I climbed, the more I could see. Finally, I stopped climbing, and gazed through the foliage.

            The forest grew sparse a few miles away, and in the distance I could see a small town. Hopefully in the town there were people, and people meant food. There was bound to be good food if people were concerned. Like tuna. I almost drooled at the thought.

            I hopped down and padded at a quick pace in the direction of the town. It took me awhile, but I finally stood at the beginning of their community. I couldn’t see too many people, just one woman making her way down the sidewalk.

            I scampered ahead to meet her, stopping when I saw her coming closer and closer. She didn’t seem to notice me. I meowed, trying to catch her attention, but she walked past. I saw the bag she was holding, and I knew I could latch onto it. I arched my back lower to the ground, and leaped.

            When my paws and claws hit the bag, I clawed my way up to her shoulder. I used her jacket to keep my balance, and when I reached her shoulder I lodged myself firmly there. She turned her head and I looked her straight in the eye.

            She tried to shake me off, but I refused to get off of her. The shaking made me dizzy, so I meowed at her, and then, to tell her I meant no harm, licked her on the nose.

            ~~~~Reader’s P.O.V.~~~~
             You walked home sullenly. You didn’t need another thing adding to my problems today. Moving along the sidewalk, You were confronted by a cat, but when you looked closer you could actually see that it was a kitten. A very large, furry kitten.
            It meowed a few times, and you walked past it. You needed to find a new job, and you didn’t want another mouth to feed. You felt a weird sensation on my back, and the sensation moved up to your shoulder. You turned my head to the side, making eye contact with the violet eyes of the kitten. Its claws were wedged into your jacket. Great.
            You tried to shake it off, but it stubbornly held on. It meowed sternly, as if reprimanding you; then it licked your nose.
            You sighed in defeat. The kitten was probably not going to leave. All of a sudden, it started raining, the overcast sky releasing its hold on its burden. You ran home with it bouncing along on your shoulder, and you could almost see a smirk on its little face. Reaching your door, it leaped off, meowing expectantly. You opened it and the kitten dashed in, soaking wet and covering the floor in water. You growled. Now you had to clean up its mess.
            Setting down your bag on the side of my couch, you headed toward the laundry room, where you took off your jacket and set it in the washing machine to clean it off. Meanwhile, the kitten scampered all around the house, exploring its contents. Suddenly, it started yowling somewhere, and eventually you found it in the kitchen. It scratched at the refrigerator, meowing and persuading you to open it up and pull out a can of tuna.
            It hopped up and down, probably meaning that was what it wanted, and walked up to your leg and nuzzled it. You walked over to the kitchen counter with it following you, and you opened up the can of tuna. The kitten started purring as it smelled the scent wafting from the can. You took out a bowl from my cabinet and turned the insides of the can spilling into it. You then set down the bowl in front of the kitten.
            It ate ravenously, finished off the bowl, and sauntered out of the kitchen satisfied. You cleaned the bowl and dried it, then set it away in the cupboard again. You quickly whipped up some Top Ramen, a quick meal that would keep your hunger down for the moment. Finishing off your lunch, you walked into the bathroom and blow dried your hair, which was semi-wet from you running out in the rain. You could still hear the rain coming down as it made little patters on your roof top.
            Once your hair was dry, you went into your room and changed from your work clothes into some comfortable sweats. You lay down on your bed, only to hear a muffled squeak and feel something wiggling out from under you. The kitten had snuggled into your blankets to dry itself off and keep itself warm while you ate and got comfortable. It was still a little damp as you stroked its fur.
            You picked it up and strode into your bathroom, taking a dry towel from your stash and rubbing it over the kitten. It squirmed, trying to get out of the towel, but you only let it go once it was completely dry. During this struggle, you had found out that it was a boy. He meowed in protest and streaked out of the bathroom, heading in the direction of your bedroom. You followed him after adding the towel to the washing machine, eying the bulge in your bed’s blankets.
            You sat down on your knees beside your bed and stared at him, thinking about how you were going to make this work. You would need to get a new job quickly. Your savings didn’t amount to much, and the food you and your kitten would need would be expensive. You sighed and laid your head down on the blankets, your arms crossing your chest.
            The bulge wiggled, and the kitten popped out. It made its way over to you and sat next to your head. He stared at you. You were about to tell him to stop that, when you realized you hadn’t given him a name. He pawed at your hair, looking bored.
            “Hey,” you said, turning your head to look at him. “If I’m going to have to take care of you for a while, I might as well give you a name.”
            He looked miffed, as if he had a name and you should have known it. He straightened up, raised his head, and gave a very regal “Meow.”
            You smirked, and gave a little chuckle. “So your name is Meow, then, huh?”
            He glared at you as if you had just insulted him. Huffing, he laid his head down on the bed, as if using it to face palm. You heard a muffled meow.
            “Kidding, I’m kidding. Obviously you’re a boy, so we need to find a name along those lines….” He looked at me dryly.
            “Steve.” He glared. “Bob.” He hissed at that one and his hackles stood on end. You grinned. “Don’t like that one much, huh? Okay… Joe.” He still glared, but his hackles lowered a bit.
            “Jose.”  He hissed again. You sighed. You didn’t know too many boy names, only the ones that were very common or of the people you’ve met. “Jacob.” He scowled as much as he possibly could. You thought. Who else did you know? Jacob was one of the grocers and you just remembered his name tag; what about when you were a kid?
            When you were very little and you stayed with your parents, you used to play with the son of your neighbors. The neighbors were from Russia, and their names were slightly hard to pronounce. Their son’s name, however, was memorable. It was Vanya. You’ve been told that it was a nickname for Ivan, so you decided to try it.
            “Ivan.” His scowl disappeared immediately, and he straightened out somewhat.
            “Meow,” he agreed, walking over to you and licking your nose.
            You looked at the clock, wanting to see how long that tirade lasted. It was 8:30, and time had gone by very quickly. “Time flies when you’re having fun…” you muttered with a frown. Turning to look at Ivan, you said, “Move over.”
            He complied and sat up, allowing you to maneuver yourself into the bed around him. When you were comfortable, you turned off your light on the nightstand next to your bed. Ivan crawled on top of your chest, seeking warmth. When he settled himself down, he began purring. The vibrations from his purrs were very relaxing to you, and you wrapped your arms around him and fell asleep.
      Okay, here's the next chapter! Russia gets to meet his new master! I was hoping to post a new preview picture with this, but unfortunately the creator of the picture hasn't responded to my request. Hopefully he or she will allow me to use it, or I will probably ask someone else if I can use his or hers. If someone wants me to post their picture up here for this story, just message me and I'll see what I can do! :icondancingrussiaplz:
